The hand-tinted postcards which showed the scene of town, the culture and people in the past were produced between the Meiji and the Showa (-100 years ago). These hand-tinted picture postcards were stained each by each with people’s hands. These cards show not only actual scene as well as a sense of closeness, warmth of people in the Nagasaki town. These are much more colorful, lovely and wonderful appearance than original scene.
“Nagasaki” flashed across people’s mind means of sad tragic history. However Nagasaki was the historical place where opened the port and invited many foreigner, and many of them lived in the town peacefully. People from foreign countries were fascinated by the scenic beauty of the several spots in Nagasaki.
Nowadays everything is convenient and rational for living, however we have missing something that these postcards remind us. The desire to living peacefully is common to all of us. Looking coloring postcards let us slip into the old time in Nagasaki. I hope many people love Nagasaki town and make pleasant town and people with warm feelings.
